My Family of Bowlers
Since my boys and husband are avid bowlers, I thought I would share how I believe that bowling actually relates to business, and how it can make you a better business person. Here are Five Attitudes That You Can Learn From My Bowlers on Being a Better Business Person:
Practice. Practice. Practice. Did I say practice? Yes, I did. When you work on skills consistently, you get better. Bowling is no different than writing, or making a phone call, or painting. When you constantly practice and get better at certain skills things improve. For example; if I want to obtain more sales, I need to work on my cold calling. I need to get on the phone and start calling. I need to practice what I say, and how I reply to individuals when they reject me. I need to remember it’s a numbers game, and the more I do it the better chance I have of getting my foot in the door. In an article from Inc., there was research done on sportsmen and women, on average around 18 percent who practiced consistently were about 18 percent better than those who didn’t. Read the article for yourself here. Inc.com is a great website that has topics on innovation, leading, business growth and so much more the business owner can learn from and get inspired at the same time. If you can handle a little animation, and advertising this is a website that you can definitely take something from and apply it to your everyday business. Have a Positive Attitude. Yes, attitude is huge in the game of bowling. My boys learned this early on. They have been on a league since the young age of 7. You can’t have a bad attitude when it comes to bowling. My youngest used to get really frustrated, and when he did, he bowled even worse. Everything went downhill. You couldn’t even give him pointers or constructive criticism. According to Jeff Bullas, constructive criticism helps you improve as a person. He didn’t want to hear it. Over the years, however, he has definitely improved his attitude - and has a bowling average of 200. You need to be positive. According to an article from entrepreneur.com 12 Tips For Entrepreneurs To Succeed In Business (And Life), Success is in the mind, it’s an attitude, a disposition. When you have a good attitude, you can deal with whatever comes your way, in business, in life and in bowling. Being a business owner, Entrepreneur is one of my favorite go to blogs of all time. Every topic you can think of for business owners can be found at Entrepreneur.com. From videos on how to create your perfect elevator pitch to productivity hacks. Entrepreneur offers visually appealing and an endless amount of content for every business owner.
Be A Team Player. I get it bowling is an individual sport, but many times you are playing on a Team. Just like in business, you need the support of each other. High fives, or fist bumps help in the game of bowling. Being in business is no different. It’s important to support one another. Everyone’s opinion counts and is important and having a team goal(s) is just as important to the Team’s success. Teamwork increases productivity. In bowling when everyone supports one another, and people are positive it increases productivity, just like a recent blog from Hubgets I read, studies have shown that even those shining superstars need the help of a strong team in order to succeed. Bowling or business, teams are needed for success. If you’re looking for a great blog to add in your bookmarks, Hubgets is a great blog for the entrepreneur. It’s easy to navigate the menu, and fresh look is just what you need after a hard days work.
Focus With The End in Mind. My husband who is an avid bowler himself tells me that bowling is a mind game. In fact, studies have shown that when we visualize our goals and are conscious of them, our full energy and personal talents are activated in order to develop them effectively. Actually, all three of my boys know that they need to focus on hitting their marks in order to pull a strike or pick up a spare. Saez is passionate about personal productivity and has a clean, easy to navigate blog that really hits home.
Make Sure You’re Doing What You Love. If I had to guess my boys, who all have around 200+ bowling averages, probably practice at minimum 2 to 3 times per week. And it shows. I love this blog, called The Bowling Universe. It could have been written by one of my sons, who is absolutely in love with bowling. Yes, Zach. He just turned 18 years old and he’s a senior in high school. He works at a bowling alley, and someday he would love to own and operate a bowling alley. In the about section of the website you learn about Dustin who created this business doing what he loved and what he was passionate about. It’s actually more than a blog. In addition, it’s an eCommerce site that’s full of inspiration and tips for avid bowlers.
If you’re a business owner like me, I’m sure you’ll admit that you have a little stress in your life at times. It’s not going to hurt you to get a little exercise and enjoy a game of bowling with your family or friends. It’s a sport both young and old can do together. So, how about it? Get off your couch tonight, grab your bowling balls, and let’s go bowling!
